Biography

As a visual artist, Lena has the ability to experiment and push boundaries in her work. She has worked with various styles of art that bridges abstraction with representation. Her flair for bold, visualized representations are reflected through colourful palettes and elaborate compositions expressing her distinctive style though different themes and concepts. Lena’s love for colour and working with different materials as her chosen mediums, stems from being inspired by her extensive travels and growing up with a diverse heritage and rich cultural influences. This has enriched her talent and techniques in her aesthetic, which are evident in her colour combinations, exquisite arrangements and instinctive brush strokes. Her work is both a fusion and a contrast of traditional and modern elements, placed in juxtaposition, while evoking a sense of discovery and emotion through an artistic narrative. The layers, textures and patterns found in her work are reflective of autobiographical experiences and personal influences, which bring about a sense of joy and nostalgia. In 2023, Lena was awarded a scholarship to study at the European Cultural Academy, an art academy in Venice, Italy. Lena works out of her atelier in the Greater Toronto Area (Burlington), Canada, the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. She’s an avid social justice advocate and greatly involved in the local art scene in her community. Her artwork has generated great interest among collectors across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.

Artist Statement

Growing up, art became my refuge and my voice, a way to express what words could not. Brushstrokes, lines and colour became my visual language, allowing me to explore my inner world and carve out space to embrace my own essence. Over time, art evolved from a personal outlet into a medium for storytelling, reflection and transformation. My work examines facets of identity, emotion and the ongoing journey of becoming. I am drawn to the seasons of life, the quiet awakenings that shape us, and the inner landscapes of resilience and growth. Nature, light and nuanced spiritual undertones inform my art, guiding the forms and patterns that are conveyed in my work.Through symbolic imagery and expressive composition, I encourage reflection on experiences and the shared human condition. Recurring motifs - figures, florals and abstract elements emerge as markers of evolution, introspection and renewal. My art considers the interplay of selfhood and strength, and the beauty of the inner life that unfolds steadily, yet persistently.I work across styles, from abstract and mixed media to line drawing, experimenting with acrylics, inks and layered materials. Each piece balances tradition and innovation, capturing both constancy and the evolving aspects of self and story. Colour, texture and strata become tools to evoke curiosity, open dialogue and inspire presence.I emphasize the need for creativity and imagination in contrast to realistic representations, exploring compositions built from visualized experience.Ultimately, my work is about the rhythms of life - the subtle currents of experience, the layers of introspection and the inner movement that carries us forward. It invites mindful engagement with the shifts of identity and presence, while celebrating the harmony and vitality of life in motion.
